Dave Fields was born in Manhattan. Fascinated with music from the very beginning, he started studying music at an early age. He was raised by his father Sammy Fields a noted composer arranger producer pianist and a nanny Olive Nettles Still a colorful southern woman from Savannah Georgia of whom he called mom. Dave has a younger sister (Launa Fields Ryan). When Dave was seven, the family moved to NJ.

As a child Dave would listen to his virtuoso father play the piano. He was exposed to different kinds of music at an early age. Having this musical environment Dave discovered his love for the guitar at age thirteen but before he got his first guitar his father required he learn the piano first. Soon Dave was an accomplished pianist and was soon playing guitar on sessions with his father. By the time high school rolled around, Dave had been exposed to some of the top session musicians and Dave found his second love, composition, writing his first score for big band at age 16. 

Dave Fields became no stranger to playing different instruments. Besides singing and playing guitar he plays upright bass, electric bass, mandolin, pedal steel, lap steel and Dobro. He is an avid “electronic musician” having skills in all the newest computer technology as well as being an engineer. Dave grew up in a recording studio and learned the engineering trade from the greats, Chris Huston, Jim Vickers and most notably Joe Barbaria. Having these tools helped prepare Dave for the future.

Dave Fields attended the Berklee School of Music in Boston where he studied performance and composition/arranging. After college, Dave soon found a career back in New York as a composer/arranger/producer working for independent record labels and also playing on records as a multi-instrumentalist. Dave, as a young musician, also toured with Tommy James and the Shondells and The Drifters and was the band/writer director for the world renown New Voices of Freedom performing with U2 in the movie “RATTLE AND HUM”.

Dave’s natural love for many types of music especially jazz and blues reflects his eclectic background having played with such greats as Dave Valentine, Deodato, Dave Larue, T Lavtiz, Al Foster, Anthony Jackson, Julius LaRosa and such Blues people as Frankie Paris, Roxy Perry and Mark Naftalin. 

Dave is a former staff member of Look music and has written many CD’s for many Music Libraries including his own THE FIELDS MUSIC LIBRARY. Dave started Fields Music in 1996. Fields Music has focused on Radio, TV, Web, Film and industrials. His extensive production credits include producing Tommy Page (BROKEN PROMISES), Terry Price (THE THINGS I DO FOR YOU), Kevin Brennan (HIGH FIVE), Roxy Perry (BACK IN BLUESVILLE) and Gioia Bruno )POINT OF NO RETURN). He recently scored music for the RNC in 2004 and the summer Olympics in 2004.

Dave recorded his first CD FIELD OF VISION in 1998 and is currently about to release his second CD SPEEDBIKE. dave is a regular at BITTER END in NYC and can be seen playing his band and accompanying many artists in the NYC area. It is hard to find a multi talented musical entity that can cover as many bases as Dave yet have a unique voice that is identifiably him. From production to performance, Dave is a force to be reckoned with.
